There is a combination of both practical and knowledge to ensure the learner’s needs are met and that the employer is providing the scope to ensure that the knowledge and skills fall in line with the requirements of the apprenticeship. The advantages are that the learner is gaining an overall experience both knowledge and skills wise and there is scope towards planning and career progression.

20% is measured throughout the apprenticeship and it is essential in accordance with Ofsted and DFE that this is implemented in all apprenticeship programmes. There are a variety of ways this can be carried to ensure that the learner's knowledge is developed through training activities, assignments, industry visits. Check the government site for more information and to ensure you are compliant with this. Bear in mind off job training is to support the apprentice's knowledge regarding work industry and not functional skills.
